Polsonite wins honors award

LeRoy Stuart Haack, son of Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Haack of Polson, has been awarded an Advance Honor Scholarship for 1974-75 at Northern Montana College.

A Polson high school graduate, he is entering his senior year this fall on the Havre campus with a vocational education major.

Advanced Honor scholarships are a recognition of unusual scholastic achievement and given to the highest ranking student each year.

Provided by the Montana university system, they allow for the waiver of registration and incidental fees for each quarter.

“We hope this award brings as much pride and honor to you as it does to us,” J.R. Crowley, NMC president, wrote in a letter commending Haack as one of the honor students for the recognition.

Grizzly bear pays visit to ranch

In Swan Lake, a big grizzly bear visited the Luckow Ranch the other night. He made quick work of the garbage, then went to the granary.

Bears must not like grain as he threw two sacks out the door but ate most of the mineral, tore through the chicken coop making his exit via the windows, unmindful of the glass. As he was leaving he collided with the electric fence.

This, or the mineral, got the better of him as he hasn’t been back since.

Mail is taken

Postal inspectors are tracing theft from a mailbox in the Shoreline-Kings Pt. area, and the thief-suspects are warned that this federal offense is punishable by federal imprisonment among other penalties.

Owners of the mailbox were away for a week, and the mail was held until Saturday afternoon deliveries.

The family did not return until Sunday morning, and found the complete bundle of mail had been taken from the box. Officials were notified and theft is being investigated.
