Sandra Fortney, 79
Sandra Gwen Fortney, known affectionately as “Sandy” to her family and friends, was born on Friday, Feb. 23, 1945, in Orange, Calif., shortly after the end of World War II. She was an extraordinary member of the “Baby Boomer Generation.”
Sandy departed this life on Sunday, Feb. 25, 2024, just two days after her 79th birthday. She is proceeded in death by her parents, Frederick and Marjorie Stewart, and by a daughter, Sabrina Renee’ Walker. Sandy attended Victor Valley High School, Victorville, Calif.
After high school, she became a wife and homemaker who made her children the centerpieces of her life. Sandy never met a stranger, was easy to talk to and anything that you shared with her was held in the strictest of confidence. Everyone needs a friend like Sandy. She loved animals, the mountains and was an absolute delight of a person to be around.
There was not much in this life that could take away Sandy’s joy and when she walked into a room, she lit it up with her infectious smile and confidence. Her loving and warm nature will be sorely missed, as she was a listening ear and comforting shoulder to cry on for so many. This world will shine a little less bright without Sandy in it.
She is survived by her brother, Rick Stewart, of Ronan; her children, Nick Walker (Bonnie) of Lake View, Ore., Kelly Morigeau (Dale) of Ronan, and Kimberly L. Simmons (Reggie) of Atlanta, Ga.; and five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
The services will be held at noon on Tuesday, March 5, 2024 at Foster’s Funeral Home and Crematory in St. Ignatius.
