Polson Seniors: Beware the Ides of March
Julius Caesar was warned to beware the Ides of March (15th). He went to the Senate anyway and was assassinated. I will beware the Ides of April (15th) – tax-due day.
Get your taxes done at the senior center at no cost on Mondays or Thursdays through April 15, sponsored by AARP. Trained volunteers and retired tax preparers volunteer to assist you. Call us for an appointment time between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.
St. Patrick’s Day luncheon is March 15 and includes bagpipes and corned beef and cabbage. Never too early to celebrate those Irish.
Applications are now being accepted for the position of director for nutrition, full or part time. Office and site management and food-service experience preferred. Will train.
A head-cook position will be open soon. Training is available mid-March.
Senior bowling continues at 1 p.m. Tuesdays ($13 lane fee).
Activities at the Polson center, open to all, include: wood carving for beginners, 1 p.m. Wednesday and Friday; self-guided, video-assisted exercise, 10:30-11:30 a.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, sitting or standing; bingo, 6:30 p.m. Fridays ($100 blackout), with playing card bingo on the first and third Wednesdays; pinochle, noon-3 p.m. Thursdays.
The pool table is open 8 a.m.-3 p.m. weekdays. Inquire at the center about bridge.
A veteran’s representative will visit the center Tuesday, March 19, from 10 a.m.-noon. Memory Café (a dementia support group) meets 1-3 p.m. on the first Tuesday of each month for snacks and fun.
Meals are available for sit-down, take-out or delivery from 11:45 a.m.-12:30 p.m. weekdays; a suggested donation of $5 helps support the nutrition program. The menu is posted each week at the center, although it’s subject to change. Call before 10 a.m. for grab-n-go.
Upcoming main dishes include: pot pie on a biscuit, March 14; corned beef and cabbage for St. Patrick’s Day, with bagpipes, March 15; potato soup, March 18; first day of Spring with meatloaf, March 19; lemon chicken, March 20; chili dog and mac ’n cheese, March 21; Birthday Dinner for Lunch with ham, au gratin potatoes and birthday cake.
