Isabelle (Welch) Mattson, 85

| March 21, 2024 12:00 AM

Born May 20, 1938; died March 5, 2024

Born in Missoula, raised in St. Ignatius, and spent over 50 years in the Flathead Valley, Isabelle (Welch) Mattson was a Montana girl through and through.

She graduated from the University of Montana, class of 1960, married Roy Mattson and moved to Kansas, then Arizona where both girls were born. They returned to Missoula in 1967, then moved to the east side of Kalispell in 1968.

Isabelle loved live music. She loved to read and gardening kept her entertained, as well as her feline companions. Isabelle’s dream vacation was to drive a big circle around Montana. She found an 18-year-long dancing partner and travelling buddy in Larry Hoffman.

Isabelle was very social and a volunteer or club member of many organizations. Church was a constant for Isabelle. She found kinship and support at Epworth Methodist.

Dementia slowly robbed Isabelle of her quick wit and zesty life. She received loving care at Beehive Homes and frequent visits from faithful friends over several years for which we are grateful.

Isabelle is survived by her daughters, Tamara Fletcher and Shelley Welch, and grandchildren Iris Fletcher, Alder Fletcher and Isabella (Bella) Welch.

If you’d like to honor Isabelle, visit your library, or buy a book.
