Polson Bridge slated for biennial inspection
The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) plans to inspect the Polson Bridge on U.S. Highway 93 during the week of April 1, weather permitting. The bridge crosses the Flathead River in the heart of Polson.
The inspection is expected to take approximately one day to complete.
According to a press release, a standard inspection is required by federal rule every two years. MDT will have an Under-Bridge Inspection Vehicle (UBIV) in place to conduct the inspection. These vehicles typically occupy one lane and are equipped with a crane and aerial device that allows workers to peer at the underbelly of a bridge.
Traffic control will be in place while crews are present. Traffic will be restricted to one lane at times and travelers should expect reduced speeds of 35 mph in the work zones. For the most up-to-date width restrictions and road conditions, visit visit www.511mt.net/.
