Endangered Species Day – 11 a.m.-3 p.m. May 16 at Mission Mountain View Point on Hwy. 93, south of Ronan; make a pollinator seed ball and learn about Monarch butterflies and the importance of wildflowers to endangered native pollinators. Help plant pollinator species, learn to use herbicides safely and identify other endangered species on the Flathead Reservation. Visit www.endangeredspeciesday.org.

"Wetlands: Lifeblood of the Flathead Reservation" – 7 p.m. May 16 at the Polson Library Meeting Room; Dennis Lichtenberg discusses the valuable aquatic ecosystems that Montana's wildlife species rely on for food, cover and water during Mission Mountain Audubon's next educational program. Lichtenberg is involved in National Wetlands Inventory field work, photo interpretation, and mapping for the CSKT Natural Resources Department; the program is free.

Ladies Night Out – 5-8 p.m. May 17 in downtown Polson; grab your gals for an evening of shopping, food, drinks, and deals.

“The Sunshine Boys” – 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday, May 17-19 at the Theatre on the Lake in Polson; the Port Polson Players launch their 49th season with Neil Simon's classic comedy, featuring Louis Jepson and Neal Lewing as Lewis and Clark, an elderly and vaudeville team. Great Bear Foundation with Frank Tyro – 5:30 p.m. May 17 at the Big Arm School; the Big Arm Association’s first event of the season is a dessert potluck featuring a talk by Dr. Frank Tyro, who has worked in broadcast media for 55 years. He’ll discuss the Great Bear Foundation courses to the Polar Bear Capital of the world, Churchill, Manitoba, as well as his personal observations, video and photography. Shannon Donahue, executive director of the Great Bear Foundation and a resident of Haines, Alaska, will add her insights to the talk. Reception: Native Heritage – 5-7 p.m. May 17 at Sandpiper Art Gallery and Gifts in Polson; non-juried show celebrates the rich cultural heritage of the Mission Valley and is on display through July 12.

After-Tax Shred Day – 9 a.m.-1 p.m. May 17 at Glacier Bank in Polson; a mobile shred truck will be on site to shred documents (limit of two boxes per person). The service is free.

E-Waste Recycling Day – 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. May 18 at Lake County Transfer Station; the station will recycle the first 300 pounds of allowable electronics for free, and offer a discount of 10 cents per pound for the remainder.

Reading Rocks with Families First – 10 a.m.-noon May 18 at the North Lake County Library: families are invited to paint rocks to match a book in the library’s collection, and help hide them around town. Those who find the rock and check out the corresponding book will be eligible to win a small prize.

Women 4 Wellness – noon-6 p.m. May 23 at the Joe McDonald Health and Fitness Center, Salish Kootenai College in Pablo; annual event focuses on health education and disease prevention by offering free or low-cost health screenings and information designed specifically for women. Screenings include bone density ultrasound, immunizations, mental health services, breast exams, cervical screenings, thyroid gland examinations, chiropractic screening, men’s health, vision screenings, and more. Unveiling: Artist Cameron Decker’s Western Cutthroat Trout sculpture – 6 p.m. May 23 on the corner of Third St. and Main in Polson; this long-awaited public art piece was commissioned by the Polson Community Development Agency for their final beautification project.
