Polson picks up wins over Corvallis, Bigfork
For Senior Night on Saturday, May 4, the Polson boys and girls tennis teams collected wins against Corvallis and Bigfork.
The Polson boys swept Corvallis 7-0, as No. 1 singles player Tate Barentsen defeated his foe Pierce Yaskins 6-2, 6-3. Brock Henriksen won his No. 2 matchup 6-3, 6-1, and No. 3 singles play Teague McElwee won 7-5, 6-1. Max Violett was also victorious.
In doubles action, it was equally competitive, as Ruger Ellis and Torrin Ellis defeated Brannon Fehr and Emmett Allsop 6-4, 6-3 in No. 1 doubles action. Brandon Moss and Taegan Gage were also victorious. In No. 3 doubles action, Noah Flaten and Truman Sawyer won a marathon against Corvallis’ Andrea Zanetti and Cooper Gividen 7-6 (11-9), 6-3.
Against Corvallis, the Polson girls fell 7-0 but other than the No. 1 singles matchup all the other battles were very close. In No. 2 doubles action, Lauren Collinge and Summer Newman fell 6-3, 3-6, 7-5. In the No. 3 doubles battle, Josie Henriksen and Karly Smith fell 5-7, 6-3, 7-6 (7-4).
Against Bigfork, the Polson girls notched a 7-0 victory. No. 1 singles player Katie Smith won against her foe Tessa Troyer 6-1, 6-3. No. 2 doubles player Greta Lund won 6-2, 6-0, while Baylee Lemm battled in the No. 3 spot and won 7-6(4), 6-4.
In doubles action, Laruen Collinge and Summer Newman were winners at No. 1 defeating Amanda Leonard and Grace Holtmeyer 6-2, 6-2. Julia Barnard and Hinkley Moss swept the No. 2 match, and Josie Henriksen and Karly Smith battled for a 7-5, 7-2 victory at No. 3.
On the boys’ side, the Pirates picked up the 7-0 victory thanks to all-around solid play. No. 1 singles play Torrin Ellis defeated Bigfork’s Seth Christiaens 6-0, 6-0. Tate Barentsen was a winner at No. 2 singles, while Brandon Moss and Noah Flaten were also victorious singles players.
For the doubles matchups, Brock Henriksen and Ruger Ellis defeated Bigfork’s Andrew Kingery and Dane Carlson 6-3, 6-1 in No. 1 doubles action. Taegan Gage and Teague McElwee were also victorious doubles players, as was Strider Gage and Truman Sawyer.
Polson honored the senior girls, Julia Barnard, Lauren Collinge, Faith Combs, Adamary Guerrero, Maddilyn Huffine and Katie Smith, and the senior boys, Tate Barentsen, Torrin Ellis, Noah Flaten, Taegen Gage, Brock Henriksen and Otto Lund.

Ronan falls to Libby
The Ronan boys and girls tennis teams fell to Libby on Saturday, May 11.
The Ronan boys fell 4-0, but the Chiefs battled up and down the lineup. Rowan Parks gave a spirited effort at No. 2 singles but lost 6-3, 6-1. In doubles play, Brady Hout and Mason Parks fell 6-4, 6-4 and in No. 2 doubles play Gordon Stewart and Kaden Buck played a marathon but fell 7-6 (9), 6-4.
In girls’ action, No. 2 singles play Kate Johnson dropped a well-played 6-2, 6-4 matchup.
