Polson Tennis sends five to state; Ronan adds one

The Polson boys finished second at the Northwest A Divisional in Kalispell, while the girls tied for third. Whitefish swept both the boys and girls titles.

Torin Ellis placed second in the singles bracket, winning his semifinal match 6-0, 6-0 before falling to Libby’s Ryan Beagle 7-5, 6-4 in the championship bout. Ronan’s Beau Decker placed third, downing Whitefish’s Jack Oelerich 6-2, 6-2.

In doubles action, Otto Lund and Tate Barentsen took third place, defeating Whitefish’s Logan Heupel and Will Pickard.

In girls’ action, Polson tied for third at Divisionals with Bigfork.

The Lady Pirates’ double squad of Julia Bernard and Katelyn Smith defeated Camry Kelch and Zoey Marzo 6-4, 7-5 in the semifinals. That advanced them to the championship bout where they defeated Whitefish’s Maggie Mercer and Ainsley Scott 5-7, 6-3, 6-4.

Polson will send these five athletes to state, held Thursday and Friday at Flathead Valley Community College in Kalispell, while Ronan will send Beau Decker.
