SKC student honored with volunteer award
Salish Kootenai College student Andrea Hall was among 18 students honored in April with Montana Student Volunteer Awards.
During the award ceremony, Hall was introduced by Luthea Tryon, who described her as “the epitome of our community's core value of service, both as an SKC student and as a dedicated college pantry volunteer.”
Hall, a Life Sciences student, has volunteered for SKC's College Food Pantry since the fall quarter of 2023. She has expanded her volunteer time to include helping stock almost a dozen student snack stations spread across the campus every week and is a registered student tutor in math, English and science for the TRIO program.
She’s also active in campus organizations, regularly attending Student Life events and Student Senate meetings.
She’s also helped train other student and employee volunteers to help out with the college pantry, and “selflessly devotes her time and energy to ensuring our pantry is well-stocked and
accessible to those in need.”
“Her willingness to lend a listening ear or offer a helping hand to those facing food insecurity demonstrates her deep commitment to serving her community,” said Tryon.
The Montana Student Volunteer Award is a partnership between the Governor’s Office of Community Service and Montana Campus Compact campuses. Honorees of this annual award are college students across the state who demonstrate dedication to service in their communities while pursuing a college degree or certificate.
