Richard Krogstad, 77
Richard Krogstad, 77, passed away Nov. 4 at St. Patrick Hospital in Missoula after a lingering illness.
Richard is preceded in death by his parents, Lyman and Arlene Krogstad, as well as his sister, Karen. He is survived by his sister, Laural, who resides in Portland, Ore., and his brother, Lonnie, who lives in Pittsburgh, Pa.
Richard has always had a passion for living in Ronan. He attended Ronan public schools, graduated and was drafted into the Army, where he served as a Radioman with an infantry unit in Vietnam. He experienced the atrocities of war and suffered through the trauma of the experience.
He came home a disabled warrior which lingered throughout his life. After he was discharged he returned to live in Ronan.
Richard’s focus has always been his family. He managed the 24/7 medical care for his mother and sister for more than 20 years, without regret. They would have never survived without his care.
His nurturing nature was extended to many friends and strangers throughout his life. He always helped others before helping himself. Through his Christian beliefs, Richard was always available for persons in need whether providing personal advice, food or other limited assistance, if needed.
Even with his limited resources he was a strong supporter of the Food Bank and would purchase large amounts of dry goods to be given to the food program. During the holidays he would purchase turkeys for Thanksgiving and Christmas to be provided to needy families without them knowing where the items came from. He did not want the recognition.
His nature was to provide support to at-risk people and never ask anything in return. He was a true humanitarian at heart. Many in the community will miss his generosity.
Richard will be sorely missed as a loving brother, a friend to many and nurturer to those that had the fortune to know him. He was a community treasure and is now in the company of angels.
