Lady Pirates split with Hamilton, Frenchtown at Divisionals

Polson started the Western A Divisional Volleyball Tournament in Anaconda by splitting with the Bitterroot teams on Thursday before bowing out of the tournament on Friday.

To open the tournament, Polson took Hamilton in four sets, 25-19, 19-25, 25-13, 25-16, as the two-seeded Lady Pirates were able to clamp down against the Lady Broncs.

After winning a spirited first set, Hamilton won the second – evening the tables in the postseason match. Polson, however, came alive and kept the Lady Broncs down the rest of the way.

McKenna Corley led the team with 15 kills, while Sam Rensvold posted 10 kills on offense. Orchestrating the offense was Rylee Taylor-Jefferson, who dished out 34 assists.

At the net, Corley had three blocks, while Josie Henriksen had two. Defensively, Rensvold was solid again with 17 digs, and Aleysia Black posted 15.

That moved Polson up in the bracket to face the Southwest’s No. 1 seed, Frenchtown. The Lady Broncs – who came into the match 14-0 – lost the first set but prevailed 22-25, 25-17, 25-15, 25-17.

Rensvold put in a balanced performance on offense and defense with 12 kills and 13 digs. Corley added nine kills and two blocks.

Taylor-Jefferson had 29 assists, and Sierra Perez, Embree Bird, Rensvold, and Taylor-Jefferson each had two aces. Aleysia Black led the defense with 20 digs, and Bird had 13 digs.

Polson’s season, however came to an end as in the consolation bracket, the Lady Pirates fell to Columbia Falls in five 18-25, 25-22, 25-11, 15-10.

The Lady Pirates finished the season with an 11-4 record.
