Azzopardi has courage to buck the system

| October 10, 2024 12:00 AM

Courage, determination and commitment to community. These are just a few of the qualities I would use to describe Shirley Azzopardi who is running to represent us in House District 13.

It takes courage to run for a state office. After her full-time job as mental health coordinator for the CSKT Early Childhood Services, Azzopardi knocks on doors throughout District 13 to introduce herself, and hear what issues directly impact people’s daily lives.

The increase in property taxes this past year has been a major issue of concern. The Department of Revenue told the governor and the legislators to reduce the taxable value rate on property from 1.35% to .94%. Adjusting this percentage to keep property taxes from skyrocketing would not have jeopardized the State’s finances but the Republican led legislators did not listen to their own revenue department. We need legislators who listen to their constituents and have the courage to buck the system.

Azzopardi, a 30-year special ed teacher in the St. Ignatius area is determined to make sure every child receives a quality education no matter if they are gifted or need extra help to get them to reach their full potential. Adequate funding for teacher’s wages and classroom books and materials is a must. She is determined to make that happen.

Shirley Azzopardi is fully invested in and committed to our community. She understands that we all want a roof over our heads, food in our bellies and healthy children, and to feel safe in our homes, schools and streets. Property tax reform, expansion of Medicaid for our most vulnerable, adequate funding for schools, police, fire and other public services must be given priority.

Shirley Azzopardi wants to be a voice for all the people. Vote for her and give her that opportunity.
