In the upcoming election for Chief Justice, Montanans face a critical decision to shape our legal system’s future and safeguard our citizens’ rights and liberties. As someone who has practiced law in Montana for over 42 years, I have seen what it takes to be an exceptional Chief Justice. Among the candidates, Judge Jeremiah Lynch stands out – not just for his experience and integrity – but for his commitment to fairness and justice that resonates with Montanans across the political spectrum.

Judge Lynch’s deep roots in Montana are a testament to his understanding of our state and values. Raised in Butte, Jerry – as he is known to friends and colleagues – and his wife Teri, an educator, chose to raise their family in Great Falls.

This deep connection to Montana shapes his understanding of the challenges we face and the values we hold dear. His life and career reflect a commitment to public service and a profound respect for the law.

With over 28 years of service in the U.S. District Court for the District of Montana, including nearly 14 years as Magistrate Judge, Judge Lynch brings unmatched experience to the role of Chief Justice. Before his distinguished judicial career, he gained valuable experience in private practice and served as a law clerk to the Honorable Paul Hatfield.

His broad legal background equips him to handle the complex legal issues that the Chief Justice will face, with the clarity and precision Montanans deserve.

Judge Lynch’s diverse academic background, with degrees from Carroll College, Montana State University (Zoology and Genetics), and the University of Montana (Law), complements his extensive legal experience. His character and commitment to fairness further distinguish him as a fitting choice for Chief Justice.

Judge Lynch is known for his impartiality, consistently applying the law fairly while upholding the rights of all. His no-nonsense approach in court, focusing on facts and dismissing frivolous arguments, ensures a fair and unbiased judicial process. His integrity and ethical conduct, both on and off the bench, have earned widespread respect.

As a proven leader, Judge Lynch has efficiently guided the judiciary and fostered collaboration. His service on the Montana Boards of Public Education and Environmental Review reflects his commitment to justice and equality for all Montanans.

Judge Lynch is genuinely troubled by partisan efforts to challenge Montana’s courts, which threaten judicial independence and the balance of powers. As Chief Justice, he will work to keep the courts fair, impartial and free from political influence, while upholding established legal precedents and safeguarding the rights guaranteed by Montana’s constitution.

In this election, it is important to choose a candidate who embodies the value that unite us as Montanans – fairness, integrity and commitment to justice. Judge Jeremiah Lynch is that candidate. His experience, impartiality, integrity, judicial temperament, leadership and deep commitment to justice make him the best choice for Chief Justice.

I urge you to consider the qualities that Judge Lynch brings to the table and join me in voting for him. He is the leader we need to uphold the integrity of our legal system and ensure that it serves all Montanans fairly and justly.
