Lady Pirates blank Frenchtown

Polson’s 8-0 victory over Frenchtown in South A Conference girls' soccer action clinched them the No. 2 seed in the playoffs. The Lady Pirates got two goals, two assists from Mady Luikart, and a hat trick from Amelia Stene in the win that saw them improve to 8-3-1 overall and 7-2-1 in conference play.

Stene scored in the fourth minute from a Luikart pass, and a minute later, another Luikart pass allowed Kellyn Nelson to find the back of the net. In the 11th minute, Stene scored her second goal of the game unassisted. Luikart scored in the 19th minute, and MacKinzi Barlet gave Polson the 5-0 halftime lead with a score in the 34th minute on a Baylee Lemm assist.

After halftime, Viviane Armstrong scored unassisted in the 54th minute, while Luikart scored from 50 yards out in the 72nd minute. Stene completed the hat trick with her second unassisted goal in the 74th minute.

Polson finished with 24 shots on goal to Frenchtown’s three. Lady Pirates’ goalkeeper Olivia Ramirez had two saves. Polson had 11 corner kicks to Frenchtown’s one in the win.

Luikart has 22 goals on the year and 13 assists, while Stene has seven goals.

Luikart shines on senior night

Senior night for the Polson Lady Pirates featured a hat trick for Maddy Luikart and two goals by Amelia Stene in a 6-3 South A Conference victory on Thursday, October 10.  

It was a strong sendoff for seniors Luikart, Haislea Sternick, Kila Cannon, and LaurieLee Truex.

Polson jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first half. Luikart scored in the 14th minute on a Madison York pass. Kellyn Nelson scored in the 36th minute, thanks to a Luikart pass.

The Lady Pirates opened up the second half with a Stene goal from a Luikart pass in the 42nd minute. Corvallis scored in the 52nd minute to make it 3-1, but Polson answered back with a Luikart goal in the 54th minute and a Stene goal with an assist from Viviane Armstrong in the 61st minute to go up 5-1.

Three minutes later, Corvallis answered back with a score. Polson wasn’t done, however, as Luikar scored in the 74th minute on a corner kick from Kellyn Nelson that got headed into the goal. While the Lady Blue Devils would get a cosmetic goal in the 76th minute but the game was in hand for the Lady Pirates.

Polson outshot Corvallis 34-13, including 24 shots on goal. Lady Pirate goalkeeper Olivia Ramirez had five saves in the matchup, while Polson had five corner kicks.
