Ronan Liquor Store gathers donations for hurricane victims

| October 17, 2024 12:00 AM

The Ronan Liquor Store is gathering goods to help victims of the extreme flooding in North Carolina that followed in the wake of Hurricane Helene.

According to store manager Michele Meyers, several boxes have already been mailed this month to Samaritan’s Purse in Boone, N.C., “but more help is needed.” Samaritan’s Purse is distributing the items collected from donors nationwide.

“There are thousands of displaced folks due to this disaster,” Meyers said. “If it was your family or friends, we would hope this would be done for us, and others here.”

Shipments will be sent each Wednesday in October and the Ronan Liquor Store on Main Street is coordinating the effort.

Suggested items that may be dropped off at the store during business hours include batteries, flashlights, chainsaw lubricant and other relevant oil-based products, gloves, warm hats or beanies, drill bits and tool accessories, thermal undergarments, coats, gloves, socks, warm pullovers, and hand and feet warmers.

Cash donations to assist with mailing costs are appreciated too.
