"Birding and the Day of the Dead in Oaxaca, Mexico" – 7 p.m. Oct. 24 in the North Lake County Library meeting room in Polson; experienced birder Josh Covill presents the Mission Mountain Audubon's next educational program. The event is free and open to all.

Monster Mash Paint Bash – 3-6 p.m. Oct. 24 at Berkshire Hathaway in Polson; costumes are welcome at this Halloween and pumpkin-painting party. Pumpkins and trick-or-treat bags are free.

“Meagher of the Sword” – 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Oct. 25-26 and 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 27 at the John Dowdall Theatre on the Lake in Polson; Neal and Karen Lewing stage this original musical lecture about the life of Irish rebel Thomas Meagher, who served twice as Montana’s acting territorial governor, before taking it to Tasmania, Australia, in January. Admission is free; donations welcome.

Maker Space Day – 4-5:30 p.m. Oct. 25 at the North Lake County Library in Polson; learn to design and print a 3-D model and turn ideas into physical objects. Registration is required; call 406-883-8225.  

Ladies Night Out – 5-8 p.m. Oct. 25 in downtown Polson; shops and eateries are open to entice women out for a festive evening.

Pumpkin Patch Splash – noon-2 p.m. Oct. 27 at Mission Valley Aquatics and Fitness in Polson; swim, enjoy snacks and paint your own pumpkin. Call 406-883-4567; 50 slots available.

Owl Research Institute – noon Oct. 29 below Bunkers Restaurant at the Polson Bay Golf Course;  Denver Holt of the Owl Research Institute in Charlo is the featured speaker at Polson Rotary's weekly meeting. Lunch is available and the public is welcome. 

Halloween Events – trick and treat events on Oct. 31 include: Ronan Trunk or Treat, 4:30 p.m. at the Ronan Fairgrounds; Pumpkin Patch Bash, 4:30-6 p.m. at New Life Church in Polson; Trunk or Treat, 6-8 p.m. on Third Ave. W. in downtown Polson; Trunk or Treat, 6 p.m. at MME parking lot, 4 7th Ave. in Polson

Tile Mosaic Workshop – 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Nov. 1 at the Arlee Community Development Corporation; mixed media artist Sean Parson will discuss his artwork currently on display at the Arlee CDC gallery and give a demonstration of the tile-mosaic creation process. Participants of all ages, third grade and up, will have the chance to design their own tile mosaic to take home. This family-friendly workshop includes materials and snacks. Holiday Turkey Shoot – 9 a.m. Nov. 10 at Fort Connah, north of St. Ignatius; family muzzle-loading event includes a string shoot, candle shoot and tomahawk shoot. David Spear: Walk the Walk – Then and Now” – through Dec. 31 in the Three Woodcocks Fire Arts Building at Salish Kootenai College; Two Eagle River photography instructor and world-class photographer David Spear shares his work. The exhibit follows last summer's show by his students from 2001-2024, titled "Talk the Talk – Then and Now." The gallery is open 9 a.m.-5 p.m. weekdays.

Upcoming meetings

Septic System Do’s and Don’ts – 6-8 p.m. Oct. 30 at the North Lake County Library; staff from the Western Montana Conservation Commission, Lake County Conservation District, Montana DEQ, Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes, and Midwest Assistance Program (MAP) will be on hand to offer tips on maintaining and extending the life of septic systems. Food and drinks are provided and walk-ins are welcome.

Lake County Transportation Advisory Committee (TAC) – 11 a.m. Nov. 6 at the CSKT Transit Center, 52001 Quicksilver Rd. in Pablo; TAC meets to discuss public transportation issues, including vehicle purchases in 2025. The public is welcome to attend.
