Ronan Council continues tree discussion
Ronan’s City Council members went on a field trip at the beginning of last Wednesday’s meeting.
Led by Mayor Chris Adler and Public Works director Dan Miller, council members, community members and Main Street business owners joined arborist Rick Jennison from Jennison Tree Services, on a walk to check out the trees and the condition of the sidewalks near the trees.
Many sidewalks have heaved near the trees, which can be hard for those with wheelchairs, strollers, or using canes to navigate, according to feedback from council members. Maintenance, such as raking up the leaves before a rain clogs the drains with them, and cleaning gutters is also an important facet.
After discussion during the stroll and back at Ronan City Hall, the council agreed to continue mulling over the tree issue.
Due to the fact that two trees in front of Gardner’s Apartments block a way for the fire department to rescue tenants should an emergency arise, council passed a motion to remove those.
In other business, the council approved Ronan Chamber of Commerce’s request for street closure Friday, Dec. 13, from 5-7 p.m. for Ronan’s Parade of Lights.
The next council meeting will be Nov. 13.
