Ronan Hall of Fame inductees announced
The Ronan Hall of Fame Committee recently released the 2024 class of inductees.
Two share the “Distinguished Athlete” title: Roger Jore, class of 1976, and Terry Camel, class of 1975. Jore was a three-time state wrestling champion and winner of Montana’s Little Sullivan Award as the state’s Outstanding Male Athlete in 1976.
Camel excelled in track and basketball at Ronan and collected 12 Divisional and five State track and field championships.
Long-time University of Montana athletic trainer Dennis Murphy, who graduated from Ronan in 1970, will be inducted as “Distinguished Alumni.” Murphy served for more than 30 years as a trainer at UM and was inducted into the Grizzly Hall of Fame as a trainer for the 1975 Grizzly men’s basketball team.
Jay Preston Sr. and wife Elizabeth “Beth,” who built a successful telephone company in Ronan, have been selected as “Distinguished Community Contributors.” Both were actively involved in significant community improvement projects for decades in Ronan and the Mission Valley.
The 1992 Ronan Maiden State Champion basketball team will be inducted as a “Distinguished Team.” The only state champion girls’ basketball team in the school’s history compiled a 19-4 season record and claimed the title in Whitefish.
The Induction Ceremony has been set for Feb. 1 at the Ronan Community Center. More information about the class and ceremony will be provided later.
