Chiefs bring experience to the greens
Ronan golf is hoping to build on last year's momentum, and it’s been a good start so far.
“I was really proud of how our teams competed last year,” Ronan Head Coach Dylan Kramer said. “They continued to get better as the year went on. The boys' team qualified for state, which was a significant accomplishment, and we are hoping to build on that momentum from last year.”
Last week, Oliver Rowe won the Whitefish Invite with a 1-over-par 72, notching three birdies on his way to victory and won the tournament by a decent margin of four strokes. Rowe is one of four returning boys, including Trey Samsel, Cooper Clary, and Connor Duglo. The girls are returning two golfers, Hanna Lytton and Emma Smith.
“We have several new golfers this year who are trying to get some good golf experience but no newcomers to varsity,” Kramer said.
Kramer said some goals for the Chiefs this season would be to qualify again as a team. Lytton and Smith went to state a couple of years ago as a team, so seeing them make it individually again would be a great success for the Maidens.
“The Western A has some really good golf teams this year,” Kramer said. “There are about seven or eight boys teams who have hopes of qualifying for state, but only four can.”
It will come down to the end of the season and who is playing their best. State qualifying will be at the Old Works Golf Course in Anaconda, which can test the most skilled of golfers.
