Polson got on the scoreboard early and often in an overpowering 9-4 victory over Thompson Falls/Plains on Tuesday, Sept. 3. Mady Luikart had seven goals for the Lady Pirates - pulling off a double hat trick and probably needing an expanded closet for all those hats.

Polson jumped out to a 6-2 halftime lead as Luikart scored off a penalty kick in the third minute, then assisted Ciri Nice on a goal in the seventh minute. Thompson Falls tied the game up with goals in the 11th and 15th minute, but Polson answered with another Luikart goal in the 17th - assisted by Rosie Lies.

“Combination play between Madyson Luikart and Rosie Lies helped drive the early and consistent Polson Lady Pirates attack versus Thompson Falls,” Polson Head Coach Heather Howell said. “Our senior, Luikart, found the back of the net repeatedly against Thompson Falls.”

Kellyn Nelson assisted Luikart on goals in the 34th and 36th minutes, then scored a goal of her own in the 37th minute on a pass from Lies.

“The return of junior Kellyn Nelson to the field brought a strong presence to the center midfield that helped build attack opportunities with Ciri Nice, Vivian Grainey, Viviane Armstrong, Mackinzie Bartel, and Baylee Lemm,” Howell said.

The Lady Bluehawks would score goals in the 50th and 51st minute to make the score 6-4, but the Lady Pirates struck again. Nelson assisted Luikart with goals in the 57th and 59th minutes while Lies passed the ball to Luikart for the seventh goal of the game for the senior. Nelson finished the game with four assists, while Lies had three assists.

Polson had 24 shots, including 13 on goal. Thompson Falls/St. Regis had eight shots and five on goal. Goalkeepers Olivia Ramirez and Alyssa Thoft tended to goal for the Lady Pirates in the contest, notching five saves. Polson also had 12 total corner kicks, while Thompson Falls/St. Regis had one.

“The defensive backline anchored by seniors Kila Cannon and Haislea Sternick, with outside defenders Audrey Matt and Madison York, helped stop multiple T Falls attacks and kept the Lady Pirates in the lead throughout the entire game,” Howell said.

The victory was Polson’s first of the year and improved their record to 1-1 while the Lady Bluehawks dropped to 0-2 on the year.
