Winter Kissed Farm extends CSA deliveries to Mission Valley

| September 12, 2024 12:00 AM

Farmers at Winter Kissed Farm in the Bitterroot Valley are extending their weekly Consumer Supported Agriculture (CSA) deliveries to include Polson and Kalispell. The two young farmers, who already cater to 230 CSA members in Helena, Missoula, Hamilton and Stevensville, will share their bounty with Kalispell and Polson customers during the winter season, Oct. 11 through March 14.

“We grow food for CSA members and farmers markets, but it’s the winter growing we enjoy most,” said farmer Katelyn Madden, 31, of Stevensville. “We’re ready to feed more Montanans the fresh vegetables they crave in winter.”

Fellow farmer Max Smith, 34, says they’ve limited the number of spots available in the new distribution area in order to continue to provide weekly deliveries to all members and to keep the soil and the growers happy.

“We base all our growing practices in soil health,” he said. “That, and the fact that we pay our crew year-round, with a starting wage of $20 per hour.”

The 20 weeks of winter CSA deliveries include greens like lettuces, red-veined spinach, green spinach, arugula, rainbow chard, baby bok choy, bunched kale, baby kale, and stir-fry greens mixes, as well as a variety of storage crops like carrots, potatoes and squash. Members can choose to pay up front ($725) or to pay weekly ($36.25).
