Three young fighters from the Polson Boxing Club are gearing up for a busy April in the ring.

On Saturday, April 5, two local boxers will represent Polson at a regional match hosted at Big Sky High School in Missoula, starting at 4 p.m. Evan Seyler, 18, will step into the ring at 185 pounds in the novice category, facing off against Luke O’Connell from Rebel Boxing in Canada. The novice division features two-minute rounds for fighters with 10 or fewer bouts.

Oziah Heavyrunner, 18, will also compete that day, fighting in the open category at 165 pounds. He'll go three-minute rounds against Kyle Raulston of Electric City Boxing from Great Falls. Oziah brings more than 10 fights worth of experience to the matchup.

Adein Hewankorn, 17, is also in the mix and could debut if a matchup is confirmed. He weighs 204 pounds and is in the contender pool, awaiting an opponent. All fights are contingent on the athletes making weight and staying injury-free.

The action doesn’t stop in Missoula. A week later, all three boxers are scheduled to compete at the Montana State Golden Gloves tournament on April 12 at the Jewel Basin Center in Bigfork. The open tournament will determine matchups during the official weigh-in.

General admission tickets and VIP admission are available; call 406-260-7245.

Seyler, Heavyrunner, and Hewankorn have trained with the Polson Boxing Club for several years. Evan has competed in two bouts; Oziah has a strong record with more than 10 fights; and Adein is preparing for his first opportunity to fight competitively.

The Polson Boxing Club operates out of the local VFW, which is the only VFW in the country with an official boxing team. Thanks to generous community support and nonprofit partnerships, all youth train free.

The club welcomes boxers ages 12 and up, with sessions running from November through June.
