Polson opens season with 8-5 win over Eureka
While Major League Baseball got started this week, Polson residents didn’t have to go further than Eureka to see some major league fireworks.
The Polson Pirates kicked off their 2025 baseball season on a high note Thursday, March 27, notching an 8-5 road win over Eureka behind a powerful pitching performance by Landon Shoemake.
Polson wasted no time getting the bats going, scoring three runs in the top of the first inning to grab early momentum. The Pirates added single runs in the third and fifth innings and another three-run burst in the sixth to pull ahead 8-2 before holding off a late Eureka rally.
Shoemake set the tone on the mound, throwing four innings of sharp baseball. He allowed just one earned run on four hits while striking out nine and walking two.
Shoemake also helped himself at the plate, going 1-for-2 with a walk. Cole Wadsworth led the Pirates’ offense, going 2-for-5 with a double and a run scored. Wyatt Wadsworth added a double of his own and went 1-for-4.
Noah Agliano provided a spark with a triple and finished 1-for-2 with a run. Landon Pablo chipped in with a 1-for-3 effort as Polson totaled six hits on the day.
Polson’s bullpen held strong when needed. Cody Haggard threw a scoreless fifth inning before running into trouble, and Wadsworth closed out the final two frames despite a three-run seventh from Eureka that cut into the lead.
The Pirates committed just one error.
