The Mission-Arlee-Charlo (MAC) softball team continued its strong start to the season with two home wins over Anaconda and Plains before falling in a high-scoring road matchup against Class B powerhouse Florence-Carlton. The Lady Bulldogs are now 6-2 overall as they approach the midpoint of the spring schedule.

MAC 5, Anaconda 2

Opening the week with a solid non-conference win, MAC used timely hitting and dominant pitching to top Anaconda 5-2 on Monday, April 7, in St. Ignatius.

Kieran Incashola delivered a commanding performance in the circle, going the full seven innings while striking out 10 and allowing just one earned run on six hits and a walk. The hurler kept Anaconda off-balance all game and received key defensive support from a steady MAC infield that committed only one error.

At the plate, MAC totaled five hits, with Amelia Cronk leading the way at 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Jada Domebo, Brooke Tanner and Maia Christopher also chipped in with base hits, while Domebo, Avia Lee, and Maddy Hanken each recorded RBIs to spark the offense.

After falling behind 1-0 in the top of the second, MAC answered with two runs in the bottom half and added three more in the fifth to seal the win.

MAC 15, Plains 4

MAC followed up their early-week success with an offensive outburst against Plains-Hot Springs, racking up 15 runs on 15 hits in a dominant win Thursday, April 10.

Leadoff hitter Maia Christopher set the tone from the jump, going 4-for-5 with four RBIs, a double, and a towering home run. Cronk, Hanken and Domebo all recorded multi-hit games, and MAC used a six-run first inning to take early control of the contest.

Christopher wasn’t the only one flexing her power – Cronk and Hanken both roped doubles and combined for five RBIs. GG Hawk also added a pair of hits and drove in a run.

MAC split pitching duties between Domebo and Incashola. Domebo tossed two innings and struck out three while allowing three unearned runs. Incashola closed the door, giving up one unearned run over the final four innings while striking out three.

The defense was sharp throughout, committing just one error as the Lady Bulldogs cruised to their sixth win of the season.

Florence-Carlton 18, MAC 7

On Friday, MAC hit the road for a non-conference matchup against perennial powerhouse Florence-Carlton and battled in a slugfest before ultimately falling 18-7 in six innings.

Despite the final score, MAC produced 11 hits and showed offensive firepower throughout, including another monster performance from Maia Christopher. The dynamic leadoff hitter went 3-for-4 with two triples, a home run, and three RBIs, accounting for nearly half of MAC’s run production.

Amelia Cronk added two more hits, including a double, while Maddy Hanken continued her strong week with a 2-for-3 effort. Alexia Steele also doubled and drove in a run.

Florence-Carlton’s potent lineup proved difficult to contain, however, collecting 24 hits and scoring in five of six innings, including an eight-run sixth that ended the game via run rule.

Domebo took the loss in the circle, pitching 5-1/3 innings and allowing 18 earned runs on 24 hits. Still, the Lady Bulldogs’ defense stayed composed, making only one error, even as Florence put pressure on nearly every inning.
