Polson Softball stays unbeaten with three conference wins
The Polson Lady Pirates posted a convincing 10-3 win over Libby in Northwest A Conference play on Thursday, April 10, and streaked past Columbia Falls Tuesday, April 8, with a 10-run fifth inning. They added a third win Monday, April 14, blanking Whitefish 19-0 in three innings.
Polson 13, Columbia Falls 3
The Polson Lady Pirates made a loud statement in Northwest A Conference action Tuesday, April 8, breaking open a close game with a 10-run fifth inning to cruise past Columbia Falls 13-3.
With the win, Polson improves to 3-1 on the season, while Columbia Falls falls to 1-2.
The Lady Pirates were tied with the Wildkats 3-3 heading into the fifth, but then erupted for 10 runs on a barrage of hits. Polson got two home runs from Olivia Jore, who finished the game 3-for-4 with four RBIs.
Liz Cunningham also stayed hot at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a double, while Opal Nash knocked in three runs with two doubles of her own. Emma Smith chipped in with three RBIs, and Jaliyah Pierre went 1-for-1 with a double and two RBIs off the bench.
In the circle, Sam Rensvold handled business, throwing all five innings while giving up six hits and three earned runs. She walked two and struck out four in the complete game effort, keeping Columbia Falls from gaining momentum after scoring in each of the first three innings.
The Pirates’ defense was spotless, committing no errors behind Rensvold.
Polson 10, Libby 3
Powered by four home runs and a complete-game performance from Sam Rensvold in the circle, Polson improved to 4-0-1 overall April 10 against the Loggers and remains undefeated in league competition.
Polson struck early and often, scoring three runs in the first inning and two more in the second to build a 5-0 lead. After Libby cut the deficit to 5-3 in the third, the Lady Pirates answered with runs in the fourth, sixth, and a three-run seventh to pull away.
The Polson offense pounded out 12 hits, including home runs from Rensvold, Olivia Jore, Opal Nash and Emma Smith. Jaja Nichols led the way with a 3-for-4 day at the plate, while Jore, Rensvold and Sierra Perez each collected two hits apiece.
Smith and Jore both drove in two runs, with Smith also adding a solo homer in the middle innings.
Rensvold was dominant in the circle as well, allowing just six hits and three runs over seven innings while striking out six and walking one.
Polson 19, Whitefish 0
Polson wasted no time putting Monday’s game out of reach, scoring 11 runs in the first inning and cruising to a 19-0 win over Whitefish in three innings.
The Lady Pirates improved to 5-0-1 on the season with the blowout road victory, combining an explosive offense with a shutdown performance in the circle.
Polson tallied 12 hits and drew several walks to fuel a scoring onslaught that included an 11-run first, followed by four-run frames in the second and third innings. Every batter in the lineup reached base at least once, with eight different players recording a hit.
Emma Smith led the offensive barrage with a perfect 3-for-3 performance at the plate, including a double and four RBIs. Jaja Nichols went 2-for-2 and also drove in a run, while Sierra Perez finished 2-for-2 with two RBIs. Olivia Jore knocked in four runs and had a 1-for-2 day at the plate. Liz Cunningham added two RBIs, and Sam Rensvold contributed a double and an RBI.
Madison Turner got the start in the circle and was dominant across three innings of work. She allowed just one hit while striking out five and didn’t issue a walk.
Whitefish struggled to generate any offense against Turner, managing a lone hit while committing no errors defensively.
