Mission’s Leishman, Charlo and Arlee jumpers star in Missoula
Mission’s Harlon Leishman and Charlo’s Karson Cox and Jaylynn Buxbaum delivered standout performances for Lake County programs at the Seeley-Swan High School Track Meet held April 18 in Missoula, where athletes from Arlee, Charlo, and Mission made their mark.
Leishman continued his stellar season in the distance events, placing second in the 1600 meters with a personal-best 4:34.22 and finishing third in the 800 meters at 2:07.46 — another personal record. His efforts placed him among the top distance runners in the region and added valuable points for Mission.
In field events, Mission’s Ryan Sharbono tossed the discus 134 feet, 8 inches for sixth place, showcasing his consistency in the throwing events. Teammate Lex LaFrombois placed 10th in the long jump, recording a mark of 18-7.25.
Charlo's Karson Cox tied for fourth in the boys' pole vault, clearing 10-6, while Arlee’s Dustone Cyrus placed eighth in the long jump with a leap of 18-8, showing the strength of Lake County athletes in the horizontal jumps.
In the girls’ events, Charlo’s Jaylynn Buxbaum stood out in the triple jump, placing fourth with a personal-best 32-1.25. Teammate Olivia Carnell hit a season-best 29-9.5 in the shot put to take eighth place.
Arlee freshman Gracie Haynes posted a personal-best time of 18.10 in the 100-meter hurdles to place 10th, gaining valuable experience as one of the youngest competitors in her event.
