Pirates push win streak to three
The Polson Pirates extended their winning streak to three games this week with a pair of impressive performances, taking down Florence-Carlton 8-2 on Thursday and following it up with a 10-4 road win over Corvallis on Friday. With the sweep, Polson improves to 5-1 on the season and continues to assert itself as a top contender in the Class A baseball landscape.
Polson 10, Corvallis 4
Polson wasted no time getting on the board Friday, April 18 in Corvallis, plating three runs in the top of the first. After Corvallis tied the game 3-3 in the third inning, the Pirates exploded for seven runs in the fifth to take control of the game for good.
Though the offense tallied just seven hits, Polson made the most of its opportunities, capitalizing on three Blue Devil errors and patient plate appearances that kept the innings alive. Landon Pablo and Paxton DuMont each drove in two runs, while Cole and Wyatt Wadsworth added an RBI apiece. Maddox Bird and Cody Haggard also chipped in with run-scoring hits.
Wyatt Wadsworth’s double was the lone extra-base hit of the game, part of a well-rounded attack that featured contributions throughout the lineup.
On the mound, Haggard got the start and delivered three solid innings, giving up four hits and three earned runs while striking out four. Pablo took over in relief and slammed the door, holding Corvallis hitless over three innings. He struck out four and worked around six walks to allow just one unearned run and preserve the win.
Polson 8, Florence-Carlton 2
A day earlier, the Pirates hosted Florence-Carlton and used a three-run third and a three-run fifth inning to pull away for an 8-2 victory. Polson racked up 12 hits in the game, with eight different players collecting at least one.
Cole Wadsworth and Landon Shoemake led the charge, each getting two hits, while Maddox Bird and Holden Emerson also notched multi-hit games. Bird finished with an RBI, and Wadsworth, Haggard, and Agliano each drove in a run to help build the lead.
On the bump, Wyatt Wadsworth worked four innings, allowing four hits and two runs (one earned), while striking out six. Cole Wadsworth came on in relief and shut down the Falcons with three hitless innings, striking out two and earning the save.
