The Polson softball team remained unbeaten on the season with a dominant doubleheader sweep over Browning on Thursday, April 17 racking up 42 runs in just six innings of play to cruise to 18-0 and 24-0 victories. With the pair of shutouts, the Lady Pirates improved to 7-0-1 and continued to show why they’re one of the most dangerous teams in Class A.

Polson wasted no time setting the tone in the opener, scoring four runs in the first inning before erupting for 12 more in the second. The game ended after three innings due to the mercy rule, but the Lady Pirates managed to pack in eight hits and 18 runs — aided by four walks, a hit batter, and four Browning errors.

Liz Cunningham led the charge offensively, going 2-for-2 with two RBIs, including a bases-clearing inside-the-park grand slam in the second inning. Her shot to the outfield turned chaotic for Browning's defense, and Cunningham never stopped running, crossing the plate to complete the rare play.

Olivia Jore also had a perfect day at the plate, going 2-for-2 and driving in two runs, including a two-run double during her second at-bat in the second inning. Emma Smith, Madison Turner, and Ahri Rushing each added hits and RBIs, while Aleysia Black and Sierra Perez chipped in.

In the circle, Sam Rensvold was dominant. The right-hander threw a three-inning no-hitter, striking out seven and walking none.

If the first game was a rout, the second somehow managed to be even more lopsided. Polson batted around multiple times, scoring 11 runs in the first inning and following it with 13 in the second to end the game early once again. The Lady Pirates tallied another eight hits, while taking advantage of five Browning errors.

Jaliyah Pierre and Madison Turner highlighted the offensive outburst. Pierre capped her second trip to the plate in the second inning with a towering grand slam, clearing the bases in emphatic fashion. Turner delivered her own fireworks in the first inning, blasting a three-run home run to put the game firmly out of reach before it had barely begun.

Turner also took the ball for game two and delivered another gem in the circle. The righty allowed just two hits over three shutout innings, striking out seven and walking one. She worked efficiently, allowing her defense to play clean behind her with no errors committed.

Unbeaten Streak Continues
With Thursday’s sweep, Polson’s early-season dominance continues. Through eight games, the Lady Pirates have outscored their opponents by a staggering margin of 97-10 and have combined power at the plate with five games in double-digit runs, with elite-level pitching and defense as they have recorded five shutouts.
