Polson tennis teams collect key wins

The Polson tennis teams continued their strong 2025 campaign with a series of dominant performances last week, highlighted by a sweep over Stevensville and a pair of statement wins over Bigfork.

On April 15, the Polson girls shut out Stevensville 7-0 at home, showcasing dominance up and down the lineup. Sumner Newman led the charge in singles play with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Nevaeh Meeder, while Baylee Lemm followed with a near-identical 6-1, 6-1 victory over Tasia Rohback. Maddie Lake and Johanna Bieber both notched 6-1, 6-1 wins of their own to complete the singles sweep.

The doubles teams were equally sharp. Hinkley Moss and Greta Lund defeated Nika Hulling and Avery Sacry 6-4, 6-1 at the No. 1 position, while Josie Henriksen and Vivian Grainey took down Lilian Hays and Jackie Reed in straight sets, 6-3, 6-0. Karly Smith and Alexa Kinaman wrapped up the sweep with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Gracelyn Godfrey and Britlee Marchant.

On the boys' side, Polson also secured a 4-3 win over Stevensville in a highly competitive match. Strider Gage handled Jeremy Madanga 6-1, 6-2 in No. 2 singles, while in the fourth singles match, Parker Hendrickson won via forfeit.

The deciding match came down to the doubles court. Marcus Lucas and Max Violett won the No. 2 doubles matchup 6-0, 7-5 over Edward Breusson and Jeremiah St. Germain. Brody Kline and Zayne Newman notched a 6-3, 6-1 victory for Polson over Tony Brown and Spencer Moore. 

Polson followed up the Stevensville match with an impressive outing against Bigfork on the same day, sweeping the boys 4-0. Truman Sawyer continued his standout play with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Rye Petersen. Parker Hendrickson had one of the tighter matches of the day, defeating Cole Schmit in a second-set tiebreak before clinching the win 6-1, 7-6 (7-1).

In doubles, Moss and McElwee once again came through, winning 6-0, 7-6 (7-2), 6-1 against Bigfork's No. 2 team. Strider Gage and Zayne Newman added the final point with a 6-3, 7-6 (7-3) win over Seth Christiansen and Will Saari.

The Polson girls also faced Bigfork, earning a 6-1 team win. Newman handled Casey Schlecht 6-3, 6-3 in the top singles match, while Baylee Lemm beat Amanda Leonard 6-2, 6-1. Maddie Lake won by forfeit.

In doubles, Moss and Lund notched a clean 6-3, 6-3 win at the No. 1 spot.
