Urges changes to Hot Springs School Board

| April 24, 2025 12:00 AM

As concerned community members, I urge change within the Hot Springs School District Board. The upcoming election is a chance to elect qualified individuals who prioritize fiscal responsibility, transparency and ethical governance.

The district's current trajectory demands new leadership. Budgetary overspending, documented in the FY23 and FY24 reports, is unsustainable. Reliance on the Sanders County General Fund jeopardizes the financial stability of all county schools and the County itself.

Familial relationships between board members, contractors, and employees raise conflict-of-interest concerns. The district's handling of the levy election challenge lacks transparency.

The incumbent candidate has served since FY21, a period of financial decline. The outgoing vice chair has served since prior to 2009 and has helped guide the spiraling decline of the district's financial situation.

Chuck Stephens and Brenda Heron offer the experience needed to address these challenges. Stephens's business experience in farming and ranching demonstrates financial management skills. Heron possesses extensive experience in business administration, including managing a $40 million budget. Neither candidate has familial ties to district employees or contractors.

Vote for Chuck Stephens and Brenda Heron. Their fresh perspectives and commitment to fiscal responsibility, transparency and ethical governance will improve the Hot Springs School District.
