Last week's story about the sentencing of Sunny White for the hit-and-run that claimed the life of Mika Westwolf on March 31, 2023, was incorrect: the sentence handed down by District Court Judge Molly Owen matched that recommended by Lake County Attorney James Lapotka and Assistant Attorney General Thorin Geist (the story stated that Owen had exceeded the sentence recommended by prosecutors by three years). Our apologies!
White was sentenced to 25 years in the Montana State Prison for vehicular homicide, with 15 of those suspended, and no opportunity for parole for a period of 10 years. She was also sentenced to five years, all suspended, for the second felony charge of accidents involving another person or a deceased person.
