Ronan boys place ninth at State
Ronan placed ninth as a team at the MHSA Class A State Championships in Billings last weekend, with a bevy of podium trips for its wrestlers.
Ridge Cote placed second at 132 pounds, making a charge through the Class A bracket. Cote pinned Hardin’s Coyt Krieger in the first round and then recorded his second fall in the quarterfinals over Billings Central/Joliet’s Xander McCann.
Cote advanced to the championship match with a 4-2 decision over Dawson County’s Tristan Swanson in the semifinals. He would end up losing via technical fall in the championship match.
Koda King placed second at 165 pounds, picking up three victories. He scored a pin in the first round in 97 seconds over Dawson County’s Arthur Haertwig. King then pinned Hardin’s Wesley Walks in 2:31 to advance to the semis where he picked up his third fall of the tournament, this time over Frenchtown’s Branch Martin. He would fall via sudden victory in the championship match.
In the 157-pound bracket, Jairyn Krause took sixth, scoring a first-round win over Lockwood’s Eddy Arciga. After falling in the second round, Krause won by sudden victory over Dawson County’s Keenan Huber.
He followed that up with a pin over Corvallis’ Castin Borkholer. He would fall in the next two matches but still made the podium.
Polson had several wrestlers at the state tournament but did not have a placer.
In the Class B-C State Tournament in Billings, Mission-Charlo’s Ryan Sharbono picked up a fifth-place trip to the podium at 285 pounds. Sharbono started the tournament with a 3-2 victory over Colstip’s Ethan Goodluck, and scored a pin over Whitehall/Harrison’s Ethan Wock. Sharbono would fall in the semifinals and consolation semifinals, but in the fifth-place match, he pinned Baker’s Logan Scherman.
