Ronan defeats Polson in dual action
Ronan scored a 45-30 Northwestern A Conference victory over Polson on Tuesday, Jan. 7. Five pins helped lift the Chiefs past their Pirate opponents.
Dominque McKay scored a pin in three minutes over Damien Kato at 175 for Ronan, and teammate Brady Hout won the 190-pound match with a 90-second pin of Polson’s Shawn Stump.
Cooper Wayman won the 215-pound match for Ronan, pinning Jaidon Mahkuk in 61 seconds, and Chief Jackson Davis put his team 24-0 in the dual with a pin over Durai Mahkuk at 285 pounds.
Polson scored a forfeit win at 103 pounds, followed by Pirate Gerardo Alverez pinning Ronan’s Justus Orman-Begman in 3:42 at 118 pounds. At 126 pounds, Polson’s Logan Clairmont pinned Ronan’s Daniel Sanchez in 3:10 to pull Polson within 24-18.
Ridge Cote would stem the tide for Ronan and pinned Corben Carlson in 1:14 to put the Chiefs up 30-18 at 132 pounds. At 138 pounds, Levi Atkins picked up a pin for Polson over Joseph Fullwiler in 1:31. At 144 pounds, Loui Mohr pulled his Pirate team into a tie with the Chiefs with a pin over Tyson Lake in 2:32 to make it 30-30.
Ronan’s Jairyn Krause scored a 12-11 decision over Polson’s Ryatt Maley at 150 pounds to give the Chiefs the lead again.
Chief Tobias Cantlon pinned Polson’s Gabriel Houston at 157 pounds in 3:23 and Ronan picked up the final rounds as Koda King was awarded a forfeit.
Ronan edges Polson in girls wrestling
In a battle of old rivals, Ronan edged Polson in girls wrestling dual action, although Polson had four pins while Ronan notched three on Tuesday, Jan. 7.
Polson started things off with two forfeit wins, then Graci Hammer defeated Ronan’s Marie Cheff via pin to go up 18-0 at 110 pounds. The Maidens’ Giselle Barron-Valenzuela got her team on the board by earning a 9-8 decision over Ariella Mihara at 120 pounds.
Aaliyah Stewart won for Ronan at 125 pounds with a pin of Shyloh Huffine in 4:32. Ronan’s Destiny Finley pinned Skyla Nielsen in 1:58 to pull her team to within 18-15. Sarah Templer earned a forfeit at 135 pounds to give the Maidens the 21-18 lead.
The scoring swung again as Polson’s Piper Adams pinned Ronan’s Lola Schock in 2:47 at 140 pounds, for the 27-21 lead, and Vanessa Wheeler pinned Ronan’s Jasmin Hakes in 1:58 to push that lead to 33-21 at 145 pounds.
Ronan’s Hadassah Read won via pin over Polson’s Amitiel Schiele-Auld at 155 pounds to make it 30-27, and Leona Dodson Howe picked up a forfeit at 170 pounds to give the Maidens the 33-30 lead.
At 190 pounds, Abighail Sorrell pinned Ronan’s Luliana Brown in 1:20 to put Polson up 36-33, but Ronan’s Tirza TwoTeeth won via forfeit to score the Maidens final six points and pick up the victory.
Cronk a champion at Cut Bank
Mission-Charlo’s Anna Cronk won the 145-pound bracket at the Cut Bank Invitational over the weekend. Cronk moved through her bracket with three pins, including a 91-second pin over Thompson Falls’ Alayna Hockhalter in the championship bout.
Teammate Olivia Carnell placed fourth in the 145-pound girls bracket, scoring two pins under a minute, while Meadow Ragen was fourth in the 155-pound bracket as she scored three falls in the consolation bracket.
At 190 pounds, Mission-Charlo’s Laurin Padilla was fifth with two pins, including a fall over Havre’s Tilli Werk in 4:43 in the fifth-place match. Amelia Cronk was third at 130 pounds, notching three pins and a 3-0 decision over Fairfield’s Shienne McNary in the third-place match.
Arlee’s Anola Naugle placed third for the 115-pound girl bracket, scoring five pins, including a 29-second pin in the third-place match. Teammate Nizhoni Haynes was fifth in the 145-pound bracket, notching two pins, including a fall over Big Sandy’s Jolisa Ortega in 2:27.
Arlee’s Jeremy Wheeler placed fifth at 165 pounds, scoring three pins and two decisions, including a pin over Browning’s Kane Burke in 1:46 in the fifth-place match.
