Dennis “Denny” LeRoy Schliep, 85, of St. Ignatius, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 23, 2025, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Ronan, surrounded by love.

Born July 2, 1939, at Holy Family Hospital in St. Ignatius, Denny was the second of five children of Arnold and Laura (Soucie) Schliep. He spent his early years in St. Ignatius, where he attended Catholic school and graduated from St. Ignatius High School.

After graduation, Denny served his country in the U.S. Army, where he was stationed in Germany.

Upon returning home, he worked at the Plum Creek Mill before putting down roots in the Mission Valley. There, he found his calling as a carpentry instructor at Kicking Horse Job Corps, where he mentored and guided countless young people until his retirement in 2004.

In the 1980s, Denny also channeled his skills and entrepreneurial spirit into running Schliep’s Appliance, offering dependable service and repairs to the community.

In 1971, Denny married Cheryl Miller, and together, they raised two sons, Jon and Dan. Although their paths later diverged, Denny remained a devoted father. He took pride in his family and enjoyed hearing about the adventures of his 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Denny was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Larry and Joe; and his sister, Janice Cordier. He is lovingly remembered by his sister, Carol (Alan) Monte of Pablo; his sons, Jon (Shannon) Schliep of Kennewick, Wash., and Dan (Tera) Schliep of Deer Park, Wash.; as well as his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

A graveside service to honor Denny’s life will be held on Monday, July 7, at 10 a.m., with military honors recognizing his service to the nation at St. Ignatius Pleasant View Cemetery. Friends and loved ones are invited to join the family for a gathering at the Longhouse following the ceremony.
