Lavender farm hosts free farm tour and picnic
Montana Farmers Union and Wild Horse Lavender in Plains host a free tour, demonstration, and community picnic from 10 a.m.-4 p.m., Wednesday, July 23.
The public is welcome to attend the day's free events at the Plains farm, which kick off with a guided farm tour from 10 a.m. to noon. The tour encompasses the farm's gardens and high-tunnels, precision watering, and small farm regenerative ag practices. Information will also be presented on medicinal cut flowers and Dorper sheep management.
An old-fashioned community picnic follows the tour from noon until 2 p.m. and includes food and games. Lunch is free but attendees who bring a homemade pie will receive a special gift, while MFU members who bring the event postcard will take home a free lavender plant.
Beginning at 2 p.m., attendees will view a distillation demonstration and partake in u-pick opportunities for seasonal lavender, flowers and vegetables, dependent on availability.
Self-guided tour materials are available for those who are interested but can't attend the whole day.
To reserve a spot at the table or to volunteer, contact farm owner and MFU Ambassador Carissa McNamara at cmcnamara@montanafarmersunion.com or at 406-333-1886.
