Mission Valley Mariners notch two wins at Harp Tournament
The Mission Valley Mariners posted a 4-2 record last week, sweeping a home doubleheader against Libby before notching two dominant wins and suffering a pair of close losses at the John Harp Tournament in Kalispell.
Mission Valley opened the week with a doubleheader sweep of Libby on Tuesday, July 8, at home. After falling behind early in Game 1, the Mariners rallied to score eight unanswered runs and take a 10-5 victory.
Holden Emerson went a perfect 3-for-3 with an RBI, while Cole Wadsworth tripled and drove in three runs. Cody Haggard added two hits and two RBIs, and Landon Pablo went 2-for-3 with an RBI.
On the mound, Haggard started and allowed four hits and five runs – just two earned – over two innings. Brayson DuMont shut the door in relief, striking out seven over five hitless innings.
In Game 2, Mission Valley again produced in bunches, scoring in six straight innings to outlast Libby 13-10. Aiden Gfroerer went 2-for-4 with two RBIs, while Pablo collected two hits, including a double. Haggard, Noah Agliano, and Justin Brown also drove in runs.
Pablo earned the win on the hill with four innings of two-hit ball. Gfroerer pitched the fifth inning in a high-scoring affair that saw Mission Valley withstand a seven-run Libby rally.
Mariners 2-2 at John Harp Tournament
Mission Valley opened the John Harp Tournament in Kalispell on Friday, July 11, with a 12-3 comeback win over Kalispell B. After five scoreless innings, the Mariners exploded for nine runs in the seventh to put the game out of reach.
Paxson DuMont went 3-for-5 with a triple, double and three RBIs. Wadsworth and Emerson each doubled, and Haggard drove in two runs with a double of his own. Aiden Courville pitched three scoreless innings to earn the win.
Later that evening, the Mariners crushed Prairie 13-1 in five innings. DuMont again led the way with a perfect 3-for-3 outing, belting another triple and driving in four runs. Wadsworth doubled twice and plated three runs, while Pablo and Emerson each added doubles.
Justin Brown went the distance on the mound, allowing just three hits and an unearned run while striking out five.
