Geotechnical work on 93 complete, for now

| July 24, 2025 12:00 AM

Initial geotechnical work on Highway 93 between Brooke Lane and just south of Eagle Pass Trail was completed recently – another step toward two major highway reconstruction projects.

The boring began in late June and was conducted by the Montana Department of Transportation, DOWL, Jacobs, Alpine Geotechnical, Salisbury and Associates, and Poteet Construction. The project helps pave the way for future utilities and bridge design elements on the Ninepipe/Eagle Pass Trail reconstruction project, slated to begin in 2027.

Geotechnical work is slated to resume this fall.

Reconstruction on Post Creek Hill, from Red Horn/Dublin Gulch Road to Gunlock /Olsen Road, begins next spring. The long-awaited project involves widening the roadway to include eight-foot-wide shoulders, construction of a northbound truck climbing lane at Post Creek Hill and left-turn lanes at major intersections, installation of a new wildlife bridge over Post Creek and the addition of a shared-use path.

Work on the Ninepipe area, from Brooke Lane to Eagle Pass Trail begins in 2027 and includes widened shoulders, three new highway bridges, one wildlife overpass, a shared use path with facilities, wildlife fencing and accommodation features, intersection improvements, and drainage updates.

Work on Ronan intersection continues

The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) and Riverside Contracting Inc. continue improving the intersection of U.S. Highway 93 with 3rd Avenue and Old US 93.

Due to technical issues with the signals, intersection traffic is now being managed by temporary traffic signals. The outer southbound and northbound lanes of Hwy. 93 are closed around the intersection to ensure crew safety. Speed limits have also been reduced. Additionally, flaggers are directing traffic on 3rd Avenue and Old US 93.

Motorists are encouraged to slow down, obey traffic controls, and watch for workers and equipment when traveling through the area.

Crews will work Monday through Friday, from 7 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. For more information on the Ronan-North project, visit mdt.mt.gov/pubinvolve/ronanurban/.
