Polson Seniors: Heavy traffic slows food deliveries

Hot August nights are near us. Stay cool man, real cool.

AARP Safe Driving Course is July 29, 9:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.. Early sign-up requested. We have about 10 more openings: no testing, video-assisted, informal discussions and take-home study guide. Cost is $25 and $20 For AARP members. You can get a substantial discount from your insurance company for completing this course. Limited enrollment.

Heavy traffic is delaying food delivery by up to 20 minutes. Be patient. We are doing what we can to deliver meals in a timely fashion, as always.

We have a great opportunity to awaken, supplement, and expand your experiences by serving the Polson Senior Community Center in a leadership position. Nominations (yes, you can nominate yourself), are now being accepted. Call or visit.

Sit-down meals are available from 11:45 a.m.-12:30 p.m. weekdays, and delivered to qualified people who call before 10 a.m. A suggested donation of $5 helps support the nutrition program.

Upcoming main dishes include: Chicago dogs, Thursday, July 24; Birthday Dinner for Lunch with baked ham and door prizes, Friday, July 25; ham and wild rice soup, Monday, July 28; pork loin, Tuesday, July 29; Salisbury steak, Wednesday, July 30; and chicken enchiladas, Thursday, July 31.

Activities at the air-conditioned Polson center, open to all, include: self-guided, video-assisted exercise, 10:30-11:30 a.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays (move it or lose it!); bingo at 6 p.m. Fridays, with playing card bingo on the first Wednesday of each month; Wednesday Play Day to play cards, board games, dominos or mahjong; and pinochle, 12:15-3 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays (learners welcomed and coached). The pool table is open for play 8 a.m.-3 p.m. weekdays.

The Spinning Wheelers meet on the first Tuesday of each month (Aug. 5) from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.; call 208-520-1013.

A veteran’s service officer visits the center on the first Friday and third Tuesday of each month.
