Lady Vikings win two, lose two at Divisionals

Charlo opens up Western B Tournament with loss

The Charlo Lady Vikings opened their Western C Divisional run with a tough 41-29 loss to the White Sulphur Springs Lady Hornets last Thursday at the Butte Civic Center.

Charlo got off to a solid start, keeping pace in the first quarter and trailing just 13-10 after the first eight minutes. However, White Sulphur Springs' senior post Natalie Fisher proved to be the difference-maker, finishing with 23 points and 21 rebounds.

The Lady Hornets took control in the second quarter, holding Charlo to just four points while extending their lead to 26-14 at halftime.

The Lady Vikings struggled offensively in the third quarter, managing only four points again as White Sulphur Springs' defense clamped down. Charlo put together a late fourth-quarter push, outscoring their opponent 11-6, but the deficit was too much to overcome.

GG Hawk led Charlo with 10 points, six rebounds, two assists and three steals, while Brielle Zempel added nine points. Maddison Harris contributed six points, and Maizey and Seeley McDonald each added two. The loss dropped Charlo into the consolation bracket, where they fought to stay alive.


Charlo bounces back after loss

The Lady Vikings rebounded from their first-round loss with a thrilling 54-51 overtime victory over Hot Springs in a must-win matchup on Friday, Feb. 28.

Charlo came out strong, jumping to a 17-4 lead after the first quarter, but Hot Springs clawed their way back with a 13-8 second quarter to cut the lead to 25-17 at halftime. The Lady Savage Heat continued their rally after halftime, outscoring Charlo 17-7 in the third quarter to take a 34-32 lead into the final period.

With the game on the line, both teams battled in a tense fourth quarter. Charlo’s defense held strong, limiting Hot Springs to just 10 points, and the Lady Vikings forced overtime. In the extra period, Charlo outscored Hot Springs 10-7 to secure the win.

Brielle Zempel had a standout performance with 20 points, while Seeley McDonald added 11. Maddison Harris scored 10, Maizey McDonald contributed seven, and GG Hawk finished with six in a balanced effort that kept Charlo’s season alive.


Second win keeps tournament hopes alive

Charlo kept its tournament hopes alive with a gritty 40-36 win over Drummond on Saturday, March 1.

The Lady Vikings built an early lead, taking a 7-4 advantage after the first quarter. They exploded in the second quarter, outscoring the Lady Trojans 17-8 to take a commanding 24-12 lead into halftime.

Drummond responded with a 16-point third quarter while Charlo struggled offensively, managing only three points. That cut the Lady Vikings' lead to 28-27 heading into the fourth quarter.

However, the Lady Vikings regrouped down the stretch, with clutch scoring from GG Hawk and Seeley McDonald helping them secure the win.

Hawk led Charlo with 12 points, followed closely by McDonald with 11. Maddison Harris and Brielle Zempel each scored eight, ensuring a balanced offensive effort. The victory set up a consolation final against Manhattan Christian with a chance to finish third.

Postseason run comes to an end

Charlo’s run at the Western C Divisional tournament ended with a tough 67-30 loss to Manhattan Christian in the consolation final on Saturday evening.

The Lady Vikings struggled to get going offensively and were held scoreless in the first quarter as Manhattan Christian jumped out to a 14-0 lead. Charlo managed just five points in the second quarter, trailing 28-5 at halftime.

The Lady Eagles continued their dominant performance in the second half, scoring 23 points in the third quarter, while Charlo found some offensive rhythm with 14 points.

The Lady Vikings added 10 more in the final quarter, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the deficit. GG Hawk led Charlo with 12 points, and Seeley McDonald added 11.
