Cherry growers convene April 5
The 87th annual cherry growers’ meeting, presented by the Flathead Lake Cherry Growers Association, begins at 9 a.m. Saturday, April 5, at the Yellow Bay Community Clubhouse, 23429 MT Hwy. 35.
The meeting is open to anyone interested in growing quality Flathead cherries. Doors open at 8:30 a.m.
Keynote speaker is Tianna DuPont, an associate professor and WSU Extension Specialist. She’ll give an in-depth presentation on what soil health metrics are important for orchards, including management practices geared toward improving overall soil health.
Emerging pathogen problems that growers need to watch for will also be discussed. Morning and afternoon sessions allow time for Q&A.
The day includes presentations of interest to local cherry growers and the opportunity to meet with agencies that connect with orchard owners. Organizers say networking with experienced Flathead cherry growers gives orchard owners an opportunity to learn how others develop successful orchard practices unique to this area.
General admission is $30 per person and includes morning refreshments and lunch; advance registration is recommended. If space is still available, registrations will be accepted at the door for $35 per person.
