Polson Seniors: Programs under scrutiny

Our Nutrition Program delivers 60-80 meals daily to clients in our area. Over the last 2 years our client list has doubled!  The national Meals on Wheels program reports that requests for meal deliveries have gone up 30 percent in one year.  The Agency on Aging (Area 6) for Western Montana has been dependent on State and Federal funding for food assistance programs.  We also rely on Lake County for support through mill levies.  We continue to offer a hot, nutritious meal to needy and disabled seniors for only $5.00/meal.

The continued funding of these senior programs is under scrutiny for reduction and/or abolition.  MSNBC has reported on the President Trump’s plan to dismantle the Meals on Wheels nutrition program for Seniors.  Contact your state and federal elected officials.

We need help in the big hall during lunchtime by pouring beverages, refilling coffee cups and water glasses, and assisting those who are not so steady with their meal trays.

A fraud prevention expert will give a brief presentation at 12:00 (appx) on Wednesday April 30th.

Bowling “no-tap” is Tuesdays, 1-3 p.m. Join any time.

Activities at the Polson center, open to all, include: self-guided, video-assisted exercise, 10:30-11:30 a.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays (move it or lose it!); bingo at 6 p.m. Fridays, with playing card bingo on the first Wednesday of each month.

Pinochle is now offered two days a week: 12:15-3 p.m. Mondays or Thursdays; and the pool table is open for play 8 a.m.-3 p.m. weekdays.

The Spinning Wheelers meet on the first Tuesday of each month (May 6) from 11 a.m.- 1 p.m.; call 208-520-1013.

Invite a foursome for Wednesday Play Day to play cards, board games, dominos, mahjong, etc.

A veteran’s service officer visits the center on the first Friday and third Tuesday of each month.

Sit-down meals are available from 11:45 a.m.-12:30 p.m. weekdays, and delivered to qualified people who call before 10 a.m. A suggested donation of $5 helps support the nutrition program.
