Polson Tennis wraps busy week with strong showings against conference rivals
Polson High School’s tennis teams powered through a packed week of competition, racking up a string of victories in both boys and girls' action, highlighted by dominant performances over Ronan and close battles against Columbia Falls, Corvallis, and Hamilton.
The Pirates kicked things off on April 24 with a clean sweep of Ronan on their home courts. Both the boys' and girls' teams won 7-0, with all singles and doubles match falling in Polson’s favor. Notable wins included Ruger Ellis’ 6-0, 6-1 rout on the boy's side and Baylee Lemm’s 6-0, 6-0 victory in girl's singles.
Later that day, Polson’s teams hosted Columbia Falls in a much tighter matchup. The Pirate boys fell 5-2 despite to strong singles play from Ruger Ellis and good doubles play by Brody Kline and Parker Hendrickson. On the girl's side, Columbia Falls took a 4-3 win despite wins by Summer Newman, Greta Lund and Baylee Lemm.
Polson hit the road April 25 for a dual against perennial power Corvallis. The Pirate boys earned a 4-3 win behind victories by Ruger Ellis, Marcus Lucas and Zayne Newman in singles. Doubles pair Max Violet and Truman Sawyer sealed the team victory in a tight two-set win. On the girl's side, Corvallis came away with a 5-2 victory, despite a gritty three-set win by Greta Lund and a strong performance by the doubles team of Johanna Bieber and Zoe Schroeder.
The week wrapped on April 26 against Hamilton, where Polson’s boys again battled to a 4-3 win. Ellis and Gage scored singles victories, and the doubles team of Branson Moss and Teague McElwee won at No. 1 doubles while Brody Kline and Parker Hendrickson won the No. 3 doubles matchup in three sets. The girls bounced back from their Corvallis loss with a solid 5-2 win over Hamilton. Lemm, Lund, and Maddie Lake each won their singles matches in straight sets. In doubles play, Josie Hendrickson and Vivian Grainey won their No. 1 doubles matchup in three sets, while Bieber and Schroader won their No. 3 doubles set up in two sets.
