Ronan and Charlo pick up wins at Big Sky Quad Track Meet
Athletes from Ronan and Charlo put together a strong showing Friday at the Big Sky Quad meet in Missoula, collecting multiple top-three finishes in both boys and girls events.
Ronan’s Tayen Edmo set the tone for the boys team with a standout win in the 800-meter run. The senior crossed the line in 2:03.20, marking a season record and pulling away from the field in the final stretch. Teammate William Normandeau followed with a strong second-place finish in 2:07.48, giving Ronan a 1-2 sweep in the event.
In the distance races, Ronan continued to impress. Senior Jacob Piapot clocked a season-best 4:50.68 in the 1600 meters to place third, while junior Devon Big Medicine grabbed third in the 3200 meters, finishing in 10:45.95.
Senior Wade Qualtier delivered a pair of strong performances for Ronan, placing second in the 300-meter hurdles with a personal-best time of 42.17 seconds and taking second in the long jump with a leap of 20 feet even. Sophomore Dustone Cyrus of Arlee edged him out for the win in the long jump, going 20-7 for the top mark.
Ronan’s relay teams also found success, finishing second in both the 4x100 and 4x400 relays.
In field events, junior Masyn Wayman continued his dominance in the throws. He won the shot put with a toss of 46 feet, 8 inches and placed second in the discus at 128-4. Sophomore Oliver Rowe added to Ronan’s field event total with a third-place finish in the high jump, clearing 5-6.
On the girl's side, Ronan freshman Hayden Dusty Bull ran a strong 3200 meters, placing second in 13:51.56. Junior Maddy Illig contributed in the field, tying for third in the high jump at 4-8.
Charlo’s athletes also left a mark on the meet, especially in the relays and jumps. The girls 4x100 relay team earned a second-place finish, while the 4x400 squad came in third.
Junior Leah Cahoon captured first place in the girl's high jump with a season-best clearance of 4-10. Sophomore Avery Coleman added to Charlo’s total with a third-place finish in the shot put, reaching 30 feet, 4 inches.
