Polson Baseball bounces back with dominant weekend
After dropping a close contest to Bigfork to start the week, the Polson baseball team responded with authority, posting back-to-back run-rule wins over Ronan and Troy to improve to 9-4 on the season.
Bigfork edges Polson in one-run thriller
In Tuesday’s home matchup, Polson came up just short in a 7-6 loss to Bigfork. Despite outhitting the Vikings 9-4, the Pirates were unable to capitalize on key opportunities and paid the price for early walks and defensive miscues.
Bigfork plated runs in four of the first five innings, building a 7-4 lead that Polson tried to chip away at. The Pirates scored single runs in the fourth and sixth but couldn’t complete the comeback.
Landon Shoemake and Maddox Bird led the offense with two RBIs apiece. Shoemake also roped a triple, while Wyatt Wadsworth finished 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Cole Wadsworth and Bird both recorded multi-hit games.
On the mound, Wyatt Wadsworth started and went three innings, striking out four but allowing four earned runs. Landon Pablo pitched the middle innings, and Cody Haggard closed it out with two scoreless frames.
Pirates rebound with 10-0 shutout over Ronan
Polson bounced back in a big way Friday, blanking Ronan 10-0 in five innings behind a dominant performance from Cole Wadsworth.
The right-hander was nearly untouchable, striking out 10 while allowing just one hit and two walks in a complete-game shutout.
At the plate, Polson struck early and often. Shoemake went 2-for-2 with two RBIs and a double, while Holden Emerson drove in four runs, including a two-run double in the third. Cody Haggard blasted a three-run home run.
Polson added three runs in the first, four in the second, and one more in the fourth to enforce the mercy rule. The Pirates also kept the pressure on defensively, committing just one error while Ronan struggled with three.
Polson steamrolls Troy to cap week
The Pirates capped their three-game stretch with a 17-4 rout of Troy on Saturday in a five-inning contest marked by a nine-run fourth inning.
Cole Wadsworth was the offensive star, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBIs, two doubles, and a triple. Paxton and Brayson DuMont combined for five hits and four RBIs, while Shoemake and Haggard each added a pair of RBIs.
Brayson DuMont started on the mound and pitched into the fourth inning, allowing four earned runs while striking out three. Noah Agliano and Pablo closed out the final innings, each putting up zeros to secure the run-rule win.
Polson finished with 12 hits and played clean defense, committing no errors, while Troy gave up five. The Pirates’ nine-run outburst in the fourth broke open what had been a competitive early game.
Polson cruises past Ronan for 10th Win
A six-run first inning set the tone early as Polson rolled to an 8-1 road win over Ronan on Monday, improving to 10-4 on the season.
The Pirates wasted no time getting on the board, capitalizing on timely hits and Ronan’s defensive miscues to plate six runs in the opening frame. Polson added two more in the sixth to put the game out of reach.
Holden Emerson led the charge at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs. Wyatt Wadsworth also drove in two runs, while Maddox Bird and Noah Agliano each added key hits to support the Pirates' early surge.
Polson right-hander Cody Haggard turned in a complete-game performance on the mound. He allowed just four hits and one earned run over seven innings, striking out three and walking one.
Polson’s offense finished with seven hits on the day and played clean in the field outside of two errors. The Pirates have now won three straight.
