Two Eagle students showcase talent at Art Slam
Emcee Tilden Sankadore held up his cell phone flashlight and started swaying to the song one of the Two Eagle River students was singing and the audience joined him.
Singing was one of the many talents on display last Wednesday at Two Eagle River School’s 23rd annual Art Slam.
In addition, students performed a clarinet solo and hand drum songs, and showed photography, beadwork, paintings, drawings, quilts and drums they made. Several read poems or compositions they had written.
Among the many wonderful photos was one by Boyce Roberts of a carnival complete with a ferris wheel and all the lights at dusk in Havre, and a sepia-hued image by Ray McDonald of bison in winter that struck an austere, nostalgic note.
Sean Dalbey, art teacher at TERS, and English teacher Rebecca Dalbey were staging the Art Slam. Sean said a couple of gallery owners in Missoula came up to judge paintings and photography.
Artist Sean Burrafato had a painting selected by the Missoula judges for a youth show this fall. He was excited and had many other examples of his work on his phone.
The students, teachers, parents, grandparents and elders who attended all enjoyed the show, which preceded last weekend’s prom.
