Lake County athletes punch tickets to Divisionals

Athletes from Arlee, Charlo, and Two Eagle River turned in strong performances at the District 6B and 13C meet May 9-10 at MCPS Stadium in Missoula, with several finishing in the top three and advancing to the divisional meet.

Arlee's Eli O’Neill continued his consistent season in the throws, placing third in the 6B shot put with a mark of 42 feet, 0.5 inches and grabbing second in the javelin at 145-3. Bridger Smith backed him up with a third-place finish in the javelin at 139-9 and sixth in the discus at 117-1. O’Neill also cleared 106-9 in the discus for 11th.

In the distance events, sophomore Trevor Van Maanen ran to a third-place finish in the 800 meters with a time of 2:06.21 and took seventh in the 3,200 (11:47.43) and fifth in the 1,600 (4:53.23). Arlee also cracked the top five in the 4x400 relay, where Cyrus, Hinther, O’Neill, and Van Maanen combined for a fifth-place finish in 3:44.78.

On the girl's side, Arlee’s Gracie Haynes sprinted to a seventh-place finish in the 6B 100 (13.58) and took eighth in the 200 (29.70). She also placed fifth in the 100-meter hurdles (18.11) and third in the 300-meter hurdles (52.75), while teammate Karma Tibbetts finished fifth in the 300 hurdles and cleared 8-0 to win the girls 6B pole vault title.

Charlo saw a strong field and jumping performance from Karson Cox, who placed second in the 13C boys long jump (19-3.5). He added a sixth-place effort in the javelin (111-2) and placed 11th in the 800 meters. In the field, Charlo’s Tasker Brown tossed the discus 113-3 for eighth, and teammate AJ Kobilansky landed a throw of 125-4 to take sixth in the javelin.

Charlo also placed seventh in the 4x100 relay (49.71) and sixth in the 4x400 (4:05.57), with both teams made up of underclassmen. In the pole vault, Karson Cox and Colter Roylance tied for fifth at 10-6.

On the girl's side, Charlo’s Leah Cahoon placed second in the 13C high jump (4-10) and tied for ninth in long jump. Brielle Zempel took third in the 100 hurdles (18.04) and Charlo swept places 3-5 in the girls triple jump, with Jubilee Cole (30-7), Jaylynn Buxbaum (30-2.5), and Madison Harris (30-2) all placing. Cole also placed third in the pole vault (7-0), and Zempel was 14th in javelin.

Two Eagle River’s Layla Tenas delivered a top performance in the girls 13C javelin, finishing fifth with a toss of 92-11. Christine Tenas took seventh in the long jump (14-0.25) and eighth in the triple jump (28-9.5), while Emma Spotted Eagle placed eighth in the 100 hurdles and fourth in the 300 hurdles (55.58). The team’s 4x100 relay placed sixth.
