Cast of 35 performs "Fiddler on the Roof"

The Port Polson Players’ 50th season continues when a cast of 35 takes the stage for “Fiddler on the Roof” June 5-15.

The beloved Broadway musical tells the story of the milkman Tevya, a Jewish peasant with traditional values who seeks to marry off his three daughters who have more modern ideals of marrying for romantic love. The play is set in the tiny Ukrainian village of Anatevka, as anti-Semitic sentiment forces the close-knit community to make difficult choices about their future.

Kyle Stinger stars as Tevye, and Cathy Gillhouse portrays his wife, Golde. In their half-century of producing theatre for Mission Valley audiences, this marks the Players’ third go-around the “Fiddler.” In the first production in 1988, Joe Keys and Maureen Theiler played those iconic roles; and in 2000, Neal Lewing and Joyce Shima appeared as Tevye and Golde.

Curtain times are 7 p.m. Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, with Sunday matinees at 2 p.m. Call 406-883-9212 or go to portpolsonplayers.com for reservations.

All three Polson Players productions of “Fiddler on the Roof” have been produced in association with the Mission Valley Friends of the Arts and directed by Neal and Karen Lewing.

The Players’ 50th summer season brings "On Golden Pond," with the Lewings portraying the elderly couple played by Henry Fonda and Katharine Hepburn in the film version, and their real-life daughter, Anna, doubling as their daughter in the play. Next up is "Always Patsy Cline," a tribute to the venerable country singer; and finally, the original "Who Gets The Lake Place," written by Polson's own John Mercer and starring Neal and Missoula actress Alicia Bullock-Muth as the aging parents.
