St. Ignatius resident Gordon Warrington treads across the intricate layers of sand deposited by geological events more than 10,000 years in the past. The layers are part of a large, post-glacial sand-dune and provide current-day economic benefits through ongoing mining operations. Warrington, along with more than 100 other participants in the Ice Age Floods Institute fall field trip, had the chance to stop at several sites around Flathead Lake and observe geological evidence of the late-Pleistocene Ice Age and the floods that helped create the Flathead region.
