Wilson and Umphrey impact outcome in East-West Shrine Game
Two Mission Valley players had a big impact in the 76th annual Montana Shrine Game in Butte on Saturday, June 18. Montana Tech-bound quarterback Jarrett Wilson of Polson threw a 32-yard touchdown pass to Mission’s Bryce Umphrey to put the West team up 22-7 in the third quarter.

RONAN — Dorothy Frances Lester was born on Sept. 22, 1918, on the banks of the Missouri River in Watford City, N.D., the third of 12 children. Dorothy attended school in Watford City; she talked of riding horses to school and of her dad having a car when they were first invented.

Keith Orville Nelson, 85, of Polson, Montana, died peacefully in his sleep on Wednesday, July 5 with Jeri (Morigeau) Nelson, his wife of 65 years, by his side.

William G. (Bill) Cordis, Sr., of St. Ignatius, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, May 9, 2024. Bill passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side. Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 16, 2024, at the Zion Lutheran Church in St. Ignatius. Burial will take place at the Pleasant View Cemetery with a luncheon to follow at the Senior Citizens in St. Ignatius.

POLSON — Our beloved Granny Furn died at St. Joseph Medical Center in Polson on Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2007. She was born March 23, 1916, at the family's farm home south of Poplar to Charles and Minta Maude Gidley. She will be missed by all those who knew her and loved her.

A total of 213 running and walking enthusiasts gathered in Arlee on a cool Saturday morning, April 13 to take part in the annual Buttercup Run. The event was sponsored by the Friends of Arlee School.

RONAN — Mary Adelle Simonis was born at home in Rollins to Carl and Evah Holm Simonis on May 11, 1921. She peacefully passed into Heaven on Friday, March 2, 2007, with her family at her side.

Mother’s Day is coming up this Sunday, May 8. Although my mother died at the age of 93 in 1993, it’s still a special day for me. I’m grateful for her habit of writing down the highlights of her life – not only in later years but throughout her life. And I appreciate knowing some of the details of her younger days and people she encountered.

William Hocker, 100
William C. Hocker passed away peacefully at home in Ronan, surrounded by family, on May 29, 2024, at 7:43 a.m. of natural causes at 100 years of age. A public memorial service will be held Saturday, June 15, 2024 at 11 a.m. at the Ronan Community Center with Chaplain Zimmerman officiating.
