Montana Law Enforcement Academy graduates 58 new officers; Couture receives defensive tactics award

At a ceremony last week, the Montana Law Enforcement Academy (MLEA) graduated 58 new officers who will serve 30 different agencies across the state. The MLEA is operated by the Montana Department of Justice (DOJ), providing basic and advanced training for state, county, city and tribal law enforcement officers throughout the state.

Thanks to the Port Polson Players’ production of Sweeney Todd, I’ve been looking at the Hot Pockets in my fridge with varying degrees of suspicion, singing to my razor while shaving much to the chagrin of my roommate and I’ve been avoiding the barber chair like the plague since seeing the show.

Mission Mountain Movies: Unthinkable

Since the attacks of Sept. 11 almost 10 years ago, many movies have been made about other terrorist attacks being carried out on American soil. While these types of movies were also made prior to the attacks, the intensity, and realism, has certainly picked up in the more recent entries in the terror-genre. The relevance remains to this day, as we’ve heard reports, even as recently as two weeks ago, of plots to unleash destruction on American civilians. Most recently was the alleged planned attack in Portland, Ore. by Mohamed Osman Mohamud, a 19-year old apparently bent on “violent jihad.”

IGNATIUS — In the 1970s, three Yayas – grandmotherly figures within the Confederated Salish Kootenai Tribe – stepped forward at a tribal council meeting to voice their concern over a proposed logging project that threatened to scar the face of the Mission Mountains. These deeply respected elders – Annie Pierre, Christine Woodcock and Louise McDonald – discussed the importance of being dedicated stewards for the Mission Mountains during our short time on Earth.
